From July 10 to 12, 2024, the China Association of Private Medical Institutions dispatched a team of evaluation experts to Nanjing Zijin Hospital to conduct an on-site assessment of the hospital’s medical quality and service capabilities in accordance with national industry standards.

In response to the call from the China Association of Private Medical Institutions to promote the sustained, healthy, and standardized development of private hospitals, and to enhance the hospital’s capacity for self‑regulation and management, Nanjing Zijin Hospital has fully implemented the guiding principle of “using assessment to drive improvement, using assessment to spur reform, integrating assessment with development, and prioritizing development,” making every effort to successfully undergo this national industry evaluation.

On the morning of July 11, the National Industry Evaluation Kick-off Meeting was held in the Academic Lecture Hall of the Jiangning Campus of Nanjing Zijin Hospital. Attending the meeting were more than 40 participants, including Hao Deming, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions (hereinafter referred to as the Association); Wang Shan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Association; Yang Youye, Deputy Chairperson of the Association’s Evaluation Expert Committee; Wang Jiusheng, Deputy Chairperson and Secretary-General of the Association’s Renal Dialysis Specialized Committee; Bi Sheng, Chairperson of the Association’s Rehabilitation Medicine Specialized Committee; Wan Chunxiao, Secretary-General of the Association’s Rehabilitation Medicine Specialized Committee; Feng Zhixian, President of the Association’s Nursing Branch; Zhuo Kunli, Deputy Chairperson of the Association’s Informationization Specialized Committee; Qin Xiaoping, former Director of the Infection Control and Disease Prevention Department at the Children’s Hospital Affiliated with the Capital Institute of Pediatrics; and Dong Hui, Deputy Director of the Association’s Medical Quality Evaluation Center—along with industry evaluation experts—and Zhu Mingzhi, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Association of Privately Operated Medical Institutions; Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital; Gao Zhiqiang, Executive Vice President; Wang Yifang, Vice President; and heads and key professionals from various hospital departments. At the launch meeting, Hao Deming, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the association, delivered a speech. He outlined the current state of development in the private healthcare sector and highlighted the association’s key priorities, emphasizing that building a robust industry evaluation system is an effective means of fostering the sustained, healthy, and standardized growth of private medical institutions nationwide, while advancing their standardization, homogenization, and brand‑building efforts. He expressed his hope that Nanjing Zijin Hospital would seize this national industry assessment as an opportunity to pursue continuous improvement across hospital management, service quality, branding, and innovation, thereby elevating its administrative and service capabilities to a new level, swiftly establishing itself as a nationally recognized, star‑rated service brand, and extended his best wishes for the hospital to achieve outstanding results in this evaluation.

Subsequently, Bi Sheng, Chairman of the Rehabilitation Medicine Committee of the Association, delivered a speech. He noted that rehabilitation medicine in China is currently experiencing rapid growth and expressed his appreciation for Nanjing Zijin Hospital’s investments in quality and management, as well as its achievements in development. He urged the hospital to seize the opportunities presented by the ongoing advancement of rehabilitation medicine, leverage participation in industry assessments to promote standardized, high‑quality development, and thereby provide patients with safe, top‑notch medical care.

Zhu Mingzhi, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Association of Privately-Run Medical Institutions, delivered a speech. He stated that the association has long been committed to advancing the development of non-public medical institutions in Jiangsu Province and fully recognizes the critical importance of healthcare quality and safety. The expert panel of the China Association of Non-Public Medical Institutions’ evaluation of Nanjing Zijin Hospital’s medical quality and service capabilities serves as both a source of encouragement and motivation for rehabilitation hospitals across the province. He expressed the hope that, through this industry-wide assessment, Nanjing Zijin Hospital will continue to enhance its clinical expertise and service standards, thereby making an even greater contribution to the cause of rehabilitation medicine throughout Jiangsu.

Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered a report on the hospital’s preparations for the evaluation. On behalf of all hospital staff, she extended a warm welcome to the leaders of the China Association of Non‑Public Medical Institutions and the evaluation experts, presenting an overview of the hospital, detailing its coordinated planning and deployment, showcasing its achievements, and highlighting its overall institutional image. Wang Shan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Association, noted that the presentation of the “speaking about the dual evaluation” video during the report demonstrated that Nanjing Zijin Hospital had thoroughly prepared for the preliminary mobilization phase, making it a notable highlight in the hospital’s evaluation‑readiness efforts.

Subsequently, Yang Youye, head of the evaluation expert panel and deputy chair of the Association’s Evaluation Expert Committee, outlined the arrangements and requirements for the evaluation process. He stated that the experts would adhere to the code of conduct for evaluation work, uphold rigorous inspection, provide truthful feedback, exercise conscientious oversight, conduct comprehensive assessments, and apply scientific scoring in accordance with the Association’s ethical guidelines, ultimately deliberating to produce a thorough and objective evaluation report.

Following the kickoff meeting, the evaluation expert panel was divided into four working groups—namely, the Professional Group on Medical Ethics and Lawful Practice, the Professional Group on Medical Quality and Safety, the Professional Group on Nursing and Hospital‑Acquired Infections, and the Professional Group on Hospital Services, Culture, and Information Technology Development—to carry out assessment and guidance activities. A comprehensive and meticulous benchmarking evaluation was conducted through methods including document review, data verification, interviews and focus group discussions with staff, medical record audits, knowledge‑and‑skills assessments, emergency response drills, and patient satisfaction surveys.

The expert delegation also visited the intensive care units, rehabilitation therapy center, hyperbaric oxygen therapy center, and high-dependency wards—among other specialized departments—at both campuses of Nanjing Zijin Hospital.

On the morning of July 12, the National Industry Evaluation Feedback Meeting was held. Participants first watched a documentary video detailing the proceedings of this national industry evaluation. Subsequently, experts from the Integrity and Law-Based Medical Practice Group, the Medical Quality and Safety Group, the Nursing and Hospital Infection Control Group, the Hospital Services and Culture Group, and the Information Technology Development Group offered their assessments of Nanjing Zijin Hospital’s strengths and areas for improvement. Yang Youye, head of the evaluation expert panel, then presented a summary of the on-site evaluation findings. He noted that, throughout this evaluation, Nanjing Zijin Hospital demonstrated clear objectives, robust measures, appropriate methodologies, and outstanding results. The hospital excelled in its specialized expertise in critical care rehabilitation, its advanced management philosophy, its commitment to fostering a patient‑centered, humanistic environment, and its efforts to build a well‑structured talent pipeline. Nevertheless, while these achievements are commendable, the hospital must continue to pursue up-to-date professional and skills training, strengthen refined management practices, and enhance awareness of data‑driven management as it moves forward.

He advised that Nanjing Zijin Hospital should, going forward, continue to deepen the development of subspecialties within its comprehensive rehabilitation program, strengthen the training of invasive therapeutic techniques, and place particular emphasis on facility and equipment upgrades as well as staff professional development.
