Nanjing Zijin Hospital evolved from the Cerebrovascular Disease Rehabilitation and Treatment Center of Nanjing Military Medical College under the Second Military Medical University (established in 1987). Approved by the Nanjing Health Bureau in 1993, it was renamed "Nanjing Zijin Hospital"After 39 years of development. Nowadays Nanjing Zijin Hospital is a tertiary rehabilitation hospital.

In 2002, Nanjing Zijin Hospital was designated as a medical insurance , becoming one of the first private hospitals included in the local medical insurance system.The hospital obtained CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) international certification in December 2023 and passed the National Industry Evaluation for Non-Public Medical Institutions in August 2024 (Medical Institution with Five-Star Service Capacity of Medical Quality、Medical Institution with AAA-Level Social Credibility).The hospital has extensive experience in treating conditions such as cerebral resuscitation, spinal cord injuries, and diseases caused by ischemia and hypoxia.

Nanjing Zijin Hospital operates two branchs in Nanjing’s Qinhuai District and Jiangning District, with over 400 staff members, more than 20% of whom hold intermediate or senior professional titles.The hospital has 300 approved beds and is equipped with three large multi-person hyperbaric oxygen chambers and five single-person oxygen chambers.the hospital features a pressurized ventilator system for critical care within the chambers.Cumulatively, the hospital has treated nearly millions patients, primarily addressing disorders of consciousness and neurological dysfunction caused by traumatic brain injuries, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, encephalitis, carbon monoxide poisoning, and spinal cord injuries.

Since its establishment, Nanjing Zijin Hospital has admitted nearly Ten thousand cases of patients with coma and other severe disorders of consciousness.

Nanjing Zijin Hospital specializes in critical rehabilitation treatment and related research.  It has established departments such as Critical Care Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine, with the latter further divided into specialized units including the Neurological Rehabilitation Department, Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Department, Orthopedic Rehabilitation Department, Cardio-pulmonary Rehabilitation Department, Child and Adolescent Rehabilitation Department, Geriatric Rehabilitation Department, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Department.  The Rehabilitation Medicine Department has been consecutively recognized as a Nanjing Municipal Key Medical Specialty.
