Go all out,
Bravely scaling the heights of sport,
Become an outstanding competitor!
“I will remain committed to integrity and abide by the rules…”
On the morning of June 15, Nanjing Zijin Hospital’s 2024 Summer Fun Sports Meet kicked off with a series of resolute oaths.
This fun‑filled sports event was designed to foster the hospital’s internal cultural development and help alleviate staff stress, with the venue set at the Shitang Town Internet Conference Center, located near the picturesque Shitang Bamboo Sea Scenic Area. Ten teams—comprising members from all wards and departments of Nanjing Zijin Hospital—totaling 100 athletes, gathered on site, ready to compete for the championship at the sound of the starting whistle.
Opening Ceremony
At the opening ceremony, Wang Yifang, Vice President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered an enthusiastic address, emphasizing how participation in team sports fosters unity and collaboration, while also encouraging everyone to engage actively, showcase their spirit, and achieve outstanding results.
The two athlete representatives jointly took the oath, their impassioned pledge resounding throughout the stadium and igniting in the hearts of all one hundred athletes a fervent determination to achieve outstanding results.
Pre-match Warm-up: Breaking the Ice and Setting Sail
Led by the on-site event host, the first activity of the sports meet, “Ice-Breaking and New Beginnings,” officially got underway. The host began by outlining the objectives and significance of the team-building exercises, followed by a series of engaging activities—including warm-up exercises, a number‑calling group‑forming game, designing team flags, naming the teams, composing team songs and slogans, and showcasing each team’s unique spirit—quickly fostering a cheerful and energetic atmosphere while building confidence and laying the groundwork for unity and collaboration among all participating teams.
“The Cheetahs,” “The Dream Team,” “Team Orange Power,” “The Young Rebels,” “Rehab Can’t Stop, Right?”… The names, slogans, and costumes of all ten teams were wildly imaginative, leaving audiences both chuckling and deeply impressed. The electrifying atmosphere and nonstop laughter on site had everyone thoroughly swept up in the fun.
Gentleman’s Sport: Curling Tournament on Land
An excited heart, trembling hands—this is exactly how it feels! Laughter never stops, applause echoes endlessly, and the tactics keep shifting! That’s right—this is curling! The first event of this sports meet, dry‑land curling, has officially begun!
Tips for Curling on Dry Land:
Also known as “land curling,” it is a team-based throwing sport played on smooth, level surfaces. Players aim to position their own stones at designated targets or knock opposing stones off the playing area to secure victory. Land curling is the terrestrial counterpart to curling, characterized by its compact footprint, ease of learning and mastery, and independence from seasonal conditions.
After the referees provided a thorough explanation of the rules, the ten teams were divided into five groups for round-robin matches on the rink. Following five games each, the top three were determined by points. This was not only a contest of strategy and skill but also a test of luck. On the ice, curling stones roared toward their intended target, and when points were lost, sighs of disappointment filled the air—only to be drowned out moments later by rousing cheers. When a stone settled perfectly at the center of the house or powerfully knocked an opponent’s stone off the sheet, thunderous applause erupted, igniting the players with passion and energy.
Power showdown: tug-of-war advances to the knockout stage
As the most electrifying event of the sports meet—the tug-of-war—teams have been eagerly anticipating it for days, each one rubbing their hands in excitement and itching to get started. At this moment, the doctors, who usually appear calm and gentle, now exude a fierce determination; the nurses, whom we’ve come to know as warm and approachable, roll up their sleeves, ready to give it their all; and the rehabilitation therapists, who proudly claim to love “taking on the big guys,” gather in a circle, seemingly plotting their strategy.
This tug-of-war tournament employed a knockout format, with two rounds of repechage, advancing from 10 to 5, then from 6 to 3, and finally from 4 to 2, culminating in the third-place playoff and the championship showdown. On the field, the Flying Tigers, led by Gao Jirong, director of Ward 103, charged ahead with unstoppable momentum, powerfully defeating the Unlimited Beyond team and the Rehabilitation Can’t Stop team. They then stormed into the semifinals with an unbeatable performance, vanquishing the Dream Team PLUS to secure their place in the final. Unfortunately, the Flying Tigers faced the Dream Team, spearheaded by Liu Yafeng, chief of the Intensive Care Unit at the Jiangning Campus. The Dream Team steadily chipped away at the Flying Tigers’ stronghold, but despite the Flying Tigers’ tenacious resistance, they ultimately fell short, narrowly missing out on the championship. Still, claiming second place is a testament to their strength and skill.
Ranking Announcement
After the clash of wit and strength in the dry‑land curling and tug‑of‑war events, the moment has finally arrived to announce the final rankings.
Congratulations! The Dream Team has emerged as the double champions of this sports event. With a spirit of never giving up, they staged multiple stunning comebacks in curling to claim first place on the leaderboard, and then secured another victory in tug-of-war with steady, determined play!
Meanwhile, the runners-up in both events also went to the Flying Tigers, whose tiger‑like momentum left countless thrilling moments on the field. We look forward to their continued efforts and to seeing them claim the top spot next year!
The third-place titles in the dry-land curling and tug-of-war events were claimed by the “Tough Guys” team and the “Dream Team PLUS,” respectively.
This fun‑filled sports event represents a deep integration of the hospital’s cultural ethos and its staff’s spirit, allowing participating employees to both savor the joy of competitive sports and experience the power of collective wisdom forged through unity and collaboration. We will continue to organize more engaging activities to enhance our employees’ sense of well‑being and fulfillment, while strengthening communication and cooperation across our two campuses and among all departments. In doing so, we will further bolster team cohesion and a strong sense of belonging, laying a solid health‑based foundation for advancing the hospital’s high‑quality development.
