On the occasion of International Nurses Day, to better serve patients, the Nursing Department of Nanjing Zijin Hospital organized a first-aid skills competition, aiming to enhance the emergency response capabilities of nursing staff and showcase the professionalism and dedication of nurses.

Before the emergency‑care skills competition began, the hospital’s leadership presented each nurse in attendance with a vibrant red rose, expressing their selfless love and deep respect for the nursing staff.

Deputy Director of the Nursing Department, Zhang Jianping, delivered the opening remarks, outlining the background and significance of this emergency‑care skills competition and extending her best wishes to all participating nurses for outstanding results.

Dean Ge Jiangping delivered a speech, expressing her appreciation and recognition for the nurses’ meticulous care of patients and their conscientious, responsible work ethic. She looked forward to seeing the contestants demonstrate their skills and showcase their professionalism, and extended her warm wishes to all nurses on Nurses’ Day.

As the competition began, the ten contestants entered one by one. All of them came from the clinical front lines—some were seasoned veterans with years of experience, while others were recent newcomers. Under the gaze of more than fifty spectators, they showed no sign of nervousness. After a brief opening introduction, they proceeded to articulate the key steps of their procedures with fluency while executing each maneuver with skillful precision.

Gathering all necessary supplies, identifying the patient’s arrhythmia type, operating the defibrillator, and performing continuous chest compressions—every step of the procedure flowed seamlessly, without the slightest hesitation or delay.

Following the competition, Liu Yafeng, Regional Director of the Jiangning Campus, and Wang Changbao, Regional Director of the Qinhuai Campus, each offered their assessments. They commended the contestants for their energetic demeanor, articulate delivery, and precise execution, while also providing detailed guidance on key procedural details, such as defibrillator energy selection, electrode pad placement, and the appropriate force for chest compressions.

As the judges provide their feedback, the contestants’ scores are being tallied in real time.

Finally, Vice Dean Wang Yifang announced the list of award recipients, as follows:

Executive Vice President Gao Zhiqiang delivered the closing remarks, congratulating the organizers on the successful execution of the event and underscoring the significance of the competition: it has substantially enhanced nurses’ emergency medical skills, fostered a culture of continuous professional development among healthcare personnel, and reinforced their commitment to diligent study and practice.

At the conclusion of the event, the hospital leadership and the Nursing Department jointly hosted a festive gathering for the nurses. The hospital leaders joined in cutting the cake and offering their heartfelt wishes. A generously piled‑up feast of cake, fresh fruit, egg tarts, and sweet plum soup—set off by an array of colorful bouquets—immediately filled the air with the warm, celebratory spirit of Nurses’ Day.
