On the afternoon of April 13, the inaugural launch ceremony for Nanjing Zijin Hospital’s Young Physician Leadership Development Program was successfully held in the conference room of the Jiangning Campus. Nearly 30 participants, including hospital leaders, department directors, and the program’s selected young physician trainees, attended the event, which was chaired by Vice President of Medical Affairs, Wang Yifang.

At the outset of the meeting, all attendees rose to sing the hospital anthem. Following this, Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered a speech. She emphasized that the Young Physician Leadership Development Program is a cornerstone of the hospital’s strategy to strengthen its workforce through talent development, focusing on the coordinated enhancement of professional ethics, clinical competence, research and teaching capabilities, and institutional commitment, with the aim of cultivating a high-caliber team of young medical professionals. President Ge extended her best wishes to all participants in the program and officially announced the launch of the Young Physician Leadership Development Program.

Physicians and rehabilitation therapists from both hospital campuses—Ji Hong, Liu Wenmei, Xing Wei, and Wang Chao—spoke in turn. Drawing on their clinical experience and reflections on medical humanities, the representatives affirmed their commitment to upholding the original aspirations of healers, cherishing invaluable opportunities such as training sessions, ward rounds, and case-based practice to systematically strengthen their theoretical foundation, standardize diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and refine their professional skills. At the same time, they pledged to actively engage in research project applications, academic paper writing, and teaching activities, seizing development opportunities and contributing their youthful energy to the hospital’s high‑quality growth.

Executive Vice President Gao Zhiqiang delivered a speech as the representative of the mentors. Dean Gao emphasized that young physicians must uphold the professional ethics of respecting patients and practicing medicine with integrity, dedicate themselves to frontline clinical work, and solidify their professional foundations, while actively promoting collaborative innovation in medical practice, education, and research. He urged them to cherish the three-year training period, approach their duties with diligence and pragmatism, assume responsibility with courage, and strive to become the hospital’s core pillars.

Following the launch ceremony, the first session of mentor-led lectures officially commenced. Vice President Wang Yifang delivered a presentation titled “Communication Skills and Key Considerations in Doctor–Patient Interactions,” drawing on typical clinical cases from rehabilitation practice. Grounded in the core principles of respect, empathy, professionalism, and rigor, she provided a clear and insightful overview of essential communication strategies, helping to advance the goal of delivering care that reassures physicians and puts patients at ease. Executive Vice President Gao Zhiqiang then presented “Localization and Qualitative Diagnosis of Diseases,” leveraging his own academic background and professional experience. He offered a detailed exposition rooted in fundamental disciplines such as anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, emphasizing the critical importance of thorough medical history taking. He underscored that accurate disease diagnosis requires not only a solid foundation in the “three basics” and a meticulous work ethic but also the seamless integration of multidisciplinary knowledge.

The successful launch of this initiative marks a new phase in the hospital’s efforts to build a robust talent pipeline.
