On the morning of November 15, 2025, Nanjing Zijin Hospital organized a specialized wound and stoma care team led by Head Nurse Zhu Lingling, together with Traditional Chinese Medicine rehabilitation physician Jing Peng, to form a professional volunteer service group. The team visited Ruizhi Kangjian Lexin Nursing Home and conducted a charitable nursing outreach event themed “Caring for Skin, Safeguarding Health.” This initiative aimed to uphold the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting and caring for the elderly, bringing professional medical and health services directly to seniors and, through concrete actions, enhancing their quality of life and sense of well-being in their later years.

Professional free clinic, safeguarding your health.

At the event site, volunteers provided comprehensive and meticulous health services to nearly one hundred elderly residents at the nursing home. The services included:

· Professional health consultation: For common age‑related conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, we provide professional medication guidance, rehabilitation advice, and education on daily care.

· Personalized care services: Provide professional rehabilitation guidance to elderly individuals in need, including wound dressing changes, pressure ulcer prevention, and management of incontinence-associated dermatitis.

· Health Education Lecture: A mini health lecture titled “Safeguarding Health in the Name of Love, Healing Wounds with Surgical Excellence” was held, using clear and accessible language to help seniors embrace the health philosophy that prevention is better than cure.

Warm interactions, solace for the soul

In addition to professional medical care, the volunteers place great emphasis on emotional connection with the elderly. They chat with the seniors about everyday life, listen to their thoughts and feelings, and learn about their needs. The event was filled with laughter and a warm, joyful atmosphere. One 89-year-old grandfather took Nurse Supervisor Zhu Lingling’s hand, examined her name tag through a magnifying glass, and said excitedly, “It’s so wonderful that you’ve come—not only have you treated us, but someone has also kept us company and shared a few words. It really warms my heart!”

Empower employees, provide sustained support.

This event not only benefited the elderly but also provided professional support to the nursing staff at the care facility. Volunteers engaged in in-depth discussions with the facility’s care team, sharing expert caregiving insights—such as techniques for repositioning bedridden residents, strategies for communicating with individuals living with dementia, and procedures for handling emergency situations—thereby helping to elevate the overall quality of care at the facility.

As the sun set, this free medical outreach event drew to a close amid the heartfelt reluctance of the elderly.
