Golden Autumn Brings Health, Rehabilitation Warms the Heart

On October 10, Nanjing Zijin Hospital successfully held a large-scale free nursing and rehabilitation clinic at the Youfangqiao Community Square in Yuhuatai District, under the theme “Golden Autumn Brings Health, Rehabilitation Warms Hearts.”

In the crisp, refreshing autumn air, the sweet fragrance of osmanthus fills the breeze. In active response to the “Healthy China” initiative, in order to uphold the spirit of Florence Nightingale and provide tangible support to community residents, Nanjing Zijin Hospital successfully held a large-scale free nursing and rehabilitation clinic on October 10 at the Youfangqiao Community Square in Yuhuatai District, under the theme “Autumn Brings Health, Rehabilitation Warms Hearts.” Led by the hospital’s Nursing Department and in collaboration with the Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Department, the event assembled an experienced team of medical, nursing, and rehabilitation professionals, bringing expert health services and heartfelt care directly to the community and earning warm praise and unanimous acclaim from local residents.

By 9:00 a.m., the free clinic had already drawn a large crowd. Under the guidance of volunteers, residents proceeded in an orderly manner through various examinations and consultations. The clinic offered a wide range of services, all carefully tailored to meet specific needs:

Health Monitoring Area

Nurses patiently and meticulously provided residents with free screenings of basic vital signs, including blood pressure, blood glucose, and heart rate, while also establishing simple health records. They offered immediate alerts and lifestyle guidance to those with abnormal readings. Rehabilitation Guidance Area

This was the highlight of the event. Traditional Chinese Medicine rehabilitation therapist Jing Peng provided professional rehabilitation assessments and guidance for common conditions such as neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain; post-stroke sequelae; and functional recovery following orthopedic surgery. He demonstrated easy-to-learn rehabilitation exercises on-site and personally instructed residents on how to perform proper home-based rehabilitation training, helping to integrate rehabilitation principles into everyday life.

Specialty Consultation Area

Specialized nurses from fields such as diabetes care, wound and stoma management, and geriatric care provided residents with personalized, one‑on‑one consultations on topics including chronic disease management, medication guidance, nutritional planning, and fall prevention, helping them adopt a health mindset that prioritizes prevention over treatment.

First Aid Education Zone

The medical team used mannequins to vividly demonstrate the procedures for the Heimlich maneuver and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), drawing a large crowd of residents who stopped to watch and even tried the techniques themselves. Attendees unanimously agreed that mastering these skills could save lives in critical moments and are highly practical.

Heartwarming Moment: Genuine Service Earns Praise

“My old arms and legs make it no easy feat to get to the hospital. But today, an expert came right to my doorstep—not only did they examine me, but they also showed me how to exercise at home. It’s truly so thoughtful!” After receiving rehabilitation guidance, Mr. Wang, a local resident, grasped the nurse’s hand and thanked her repeatedly.

After having her blood sugar checked, Auntie Li received detailed dietary advice from a specialized nurse. She remarked with emotion, “I used to think that if my blood sugar was high, I just needed to cut back on sweets. Today, I finally learned how to put together balanced meals throughout the day. Events like this really hit the mark!”

Fu Weihong, deputy director of the Nursing Department at Nanjing Zijin Hospital, stated: “By organizing this event, we are not only putting into practice the service philosophy of ‘putting people’s health first,’ but also seeking to extend rehabilitation nursing services from the hospital to the community and to broaden our scope from treatment to prevention and recovery. ‘Rehabilitation warms the heart’—through professional care and empathetic communication, we hope to genuinely bring warmth to every resident and enhance their sense of health and well-being.”

This “Golden Autumn Health Outreach, Rehabilitation Warms Hearts” free clinic event served nearly 160 community residents and distributed over 110 health‑education materials. The initiative not only provided residents with convenient, professional medical care and effectively promoted health awareness and first‑aid skills, but also built a “bridge of connection” between the hospital and the community.

It fully showcases the rehabilitation nursing team of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, demonstrating their professional excellence and social responsibility, and serves as a vivid example of the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality care and giving back to the community. Moving forward, the hospital will continue to organize such public‑benefit initiatives, bringing health‑related benefits directly into people’s homes and contributing the solid strength of Nanjing Zijin Hospital to the building of a Healthy China.
