On September 29, 2025, the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Professional Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions successfully held an online case discussion meeting.

This conference, themed “Indications and Contraindications for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy,” was held via the Tencent Meeting platform, drawing numerous experts and colleagues from across the country in the field of hyperbaric medicine to participate online. At the outset, Ge Jiangping, Executive Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Professional Committee of the China Association of Non‑Public Medical Institutions, and President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered a welcoming address. She first extended a warm welcome on behalf of the committee to all the attending experts, emphasizing that this case discussion session—marking the committee’s inaugural academic event since its establishment in April of this year—holds groundbreaking significance. President Ge noted that the session will help establish a high‑quality model for scholarly exchange. Finally, she wished the conference every success and extended her best wishes to all participants on the occasion of the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.

The conference featured two case‑presentation sessions. The first case was presented by Dr. Meng Yuting from the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Department at Nanjing Baptist Hospital, titled “A Comprehensive Management Approach to a Patient with Severe Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Due to Charcoal‑Burning Suicide Complicated by Posterior Subcapsular Haze.” This case illustrated the management strategy for complex clinical challenges following carbon monoxide poisoning, encompassing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, sedation protocols, and immunomodulatory treatment, and sparked an in‑depth discussion on the optimal timing of diagnosis, the use of sedative agents, and the impact of corticosteroid therapy.

The second case was presented by Dr. Wang Qing from the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Nanjing Zijin Hospital, titled “Nurturing the Heart’s Voice: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for a Case of Coronary Atherosclerotic Heart Disease Complicated by Cardiac and Respiratory Arrest.” This case describes the treatment course of a critically ill patient who, despite multiple surgeries and multiorgan failure, achieved recovery of consciousness, marked improvement in cardiac and renal function, and successful weaning from mechanical ventilation and extubation through a combination of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and rehabilitation interventions. The individualized adjustments to hyperbaric oxygen therapy dosing, in‑cabin vital‑sign monitoring, and multidisciplinary collaborative management strategies demonstrated in this case offer valuable insights for the clinical management of similar patients.

During the case discussion session, numerous experts—including Director Long Ying of Shenzhen People’s Hospital, Director Lan Haibo of Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital, Director Li Jinsheng of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, Director Chen Xiaofeng of Shenzhen Baoxing Hospital, Director Liu Chuanjun of the Rehabilitation Hospital of Dalian Health and Wellness Group, and Director Guan Yadong of Nanjing Mingji Hospital—offered expert commentary from multiple perspectives, covering hyperbaric oxygen therapy safety, cardiac assessment, airway management, optimal timing for awakening, and critical care rehabilitation. They unanimously affirmed the pivotal role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the multimodal treatment of critically ill patients, while also offering constructive recommendations to address common clinical challenges.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Li Jinsheng, Chairperson of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions, delivered a summary. He emphasized that this conference marked the first case‑discussion session since the establishment of the Committee and holds significant academic and practical value. Moving forward, the Committee will continue to promote the standardization and wider adoption of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and plans to institutionalize online case discussions as a regular academic activity. Member institutions are encouraged to submit representative cases and actively participate in these exchanges.
