“Compliance Builds a Strong Foundation; Collaborative Innovation Ushers in a New Chapter.” On April 27, 2025, the inaugural meeting of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Professional Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”) of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions (hereinafter referred to as the “China Private Med Assoc”), together with its first annual academic conference, was successfully held in Nanjing. Marking a milestone event for hyperbaric oxygen medicine in China, the conference brought together more than 200 representatives from medical institutions nationwide and leading industry experts in the “Jinling” city, jointly witnessing the launch of a new phase in the development of hyperbaric oxygen therapy within the private healthcare sector. The event was co-hosted by the China Private Med Assoc and the Preparatory Committee of its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Professional Committee, with Nanjing Zijin Hospital serving as the host institution.

Address by Executive Vice President and Secretary-General Hao Deming

In his address, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General Hao Deming pointed out that hyperbaric oxygen medicine, as an essential component of the modern healthcare system, plays a unique role in the management of critical illnesses and in neurological rehabilitation. He commended non‑public medical institutions for their significant support and contributions to the development of hyperbaric oxygen medicine, while also offering an in-depth analysis of the sector’s shortcomings in China—particularly in areas such as equipment and facilities, treatment techniques, scientific research and innovation, and talent cultivation. With regard to the establishment of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Specialized Committee, he underscored its necessity and far‑reaching significance, and set forth specific expectations for the committee’s future work from multiple perspectives. He called on non‑public medical institutions to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, promote the standardization and harmonization of hyperbaric oxygen therapy practices, and contribute to the advancement of Healthy China.

Speech by President Wang Yonghong

President Wang Yonghong pointed out that hyperbaric oxygen medicine is evolving from its traditional focus on “treating disease” to encompass “disease prevention” and “health promotion,” a trend that aligns closely with the nation’s grand health strategy. She expressed her hope that the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Specialized Committee will fully leverage its role as an industry bridge, vigorously advance standardization efforts, deepen the integration of medicine and engineering, and establish a networked system for collaborative development.

Speech by Deputy Director Zhou Nan

Deputy Director Zhou Nan, drawing on national and Nanjing‑specific data on the development of hyperbaric oxygen medicine, outlined the current state of the field. She commended Nanjing Zijin Hospital for its pioneering role in advancing the discipline and urged practitioners of hyperbaric oxygen medicine in Nanjing, as well as all medical institutions, to continuously enhance their professional expertise, faithfully uphold their mission as healers, strengthen quality‑control measures, fortify safety safeguards, deepen collaboration and resource sharing, and pool efforts to drive sustained progress.

Vice President and Secretary-General Zhu Mingzhi emphasized that private medical institutions, as an indispensable and vital force in the Healthy China initiative, should leverage their unique strengths and, through the specialized committee’s platform, advance the high-quality development of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to meet increasingly diversified healthcare needs.

Prior to the opening of the annual academic conference, an election meeting for the specialized committee was held. The meeting elected the inaugural leadership team of the committee and a total of 246 members at all levels, including 48 executive committee members and 11 members of the leadership team. Li Jinsheng was appointed as the first chairperson of the specialized committee, Ge Jiangping served as both executive vice chairperson and secretary-general, and the vice chairpersons are Guan Yadong, Li Hongling, Liu Chuanjun, Peng Zhengrong, Chen Xiaofeng, Zhang Yi, Wang Dong, Zhang Enda, and Lan Haibo. At the nomination of Chairperson Li Jinsheng, Long Ying was appointed honorary chairperson of the specialized committee.

In his report on the preparatory work for the specialized committee, Ge Jiangping, the principal initiator and president of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, provided a comprehensive analysis of the current state and challenges facing hyperbaric oxygen medicine. He systematically outlined the committee’s founding rationale and organizational structure, and, from multiple perspectives—including the organization of academic conferences, the development of treatment guidelines, the establishment of quality‑control centers, professional education and training, and public‑health outreach—sketched a clear roadmap for the committee’s future growth.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, the attending leaders presented appointment letters to the honorary chairperson and members of the specialized committee’s leadership team, followed by a plaque‑unveiling ceremony. As the red cloth was slowly lifted, the golden plaque reading “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Professional Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions” gleamed brightly, marking the official establishment of the committee and heralding a new chapter in the development of hyperbaric oxygen medicine in China, while injecting strong momentum into the pursuit of high‑quality progress in this field.

At the same time, it will establish a cross-regional platform for academic exchange, facilitate the sharing of high-quality medical resources, and contribute further to the advancement of hyperbaric oxygen medicine.
