A colorful balloon corridor, whimsical clowns, dazzling cakes and mouthwatering desserts, and adorable plush toys—this is not the scene of a Children’s Day celebration at a kindergarten or school, but rather in the pediatric rehabilitation hall at the Qinhuai Branch of Nanjing Zijin Hospital. Joining the festivities were not only the sweet little ones, but also their parents and family members, as well as the hospital’s medical, nursing, and technical staff.

According to reports, Nanjing Zijin Hospital is currently the only tertiary‑level rehabilitation hospital in Nanjing, primarily focusing on intensive‑care rehabilitation. The pediatric patients here mainly suffer from brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. During their inpatient rehabilitation, they undergo a variety of therapeutic exercises and training sessions. To create joyful memories of Children’s Day and alleviate the monotony of their recovery routine, the hospital began preparing this event well in advance. Dr. Wang Changbao, director of the Qinhuai Branch of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, noted that children would normally be celebrating Children’s Day at school, in the park, or with their families—but for various reasons, they are now undergoing rehabilitation at our hospital. “No matter where they are, in the hearts of their parents and medical staff, they are all angels. That’s why we’ve organized a range of games today, integrated with rehabilitation training: ring toss and jigsaw puzzles help develop fine motor skills, while singing strengthens language abilities. We hope that through these activities, the children can recover as they play.” At the event, the children enjoyed a host of beloved prizes by participating in games such as jigsaw puzzles, ring toss, and blind‑box opening. In addition, two young patients performed specially prepared songs for everyone.

As a parent of a child who is about to recover and be discharged, Yang Fang (pseudonym) was so moved that tears welled up in her eyes. She said that over the past few years, she had never been able to celebrate Children’s Day with her son. This “Love in Zijin, Joyful June 1st” event organized by the hospital not only made up for that long‑overdue joy but will also leave an indelible mark on their memories.
