Comatose high school girl receives social assistance; her condition has improved.

A high school girl in Nanjing was accidentally injured in a fall and fell into a vegetative state, after which she was transferred to Nanjing Zijin Hospital for treatment. With the hospital’s assistance, she received financial support from various sectors of society, enabling her to cover her medical expenses; meanwhile, her condition has also improved following treatment.

Lu Mengxian, a high school student from the Qinhuai District of Nanjing, is an outstanding student known for both her academic excellence and moral character. On January 22, 2017, she tragically fell on her way home from school, after which she slipped into a coma. Shortly thereafter, her family transferred her to Nanjing Zijin Hospital for treatment.

Lu Mengxian’s family was already not well-off, and last year they suffered a series of misfortunes: his father underwent cervical spine surgery in May, and his grandfather, after being seriously ill, passed away despite intensive medical efforts. Following Lu Mengxian’s fall and injury, raising the funds for his treatment has become a major challenge, leaving his parents deeply worried.

After learning of the situation during treatment, doctors at Nanjing Zijin Hospital proactively reached out to the media to bring attention to the case. Jiangsu TV and several other outlets provided ongoing coverage, calling on the public to lend a helping hand. The hospital’s official WeChat account also issued a post with photos and text, urging support from all sectors of society. At the suggestion of hospital staff, the patient’s parents launched an online fundraising campaign. Teachers and parents at Lu Mengxian’s school likewise rallied to raise funds, and in just half a month, donations exceeded 600,000 yuan.

Meanwhile, Nanjing Zijin Hospital has repeatedly convened expert consultations for Lu Mengxian and formulated a precision treatment plan. Recently, his condition has shown encouraging progress, with the emergence of minimal consciousness and a steady improvement in his clinical score. The hospital will continue to spare no effort to facilitate his recovery.
