June 1 is International Children’s Day. That afternoon, medical staff at the Jiangning Ward of Nanjing Zijin Hospital received a cake inscribed with “Happy Children’s Day.” What was the story behind it? It turned out that the cake had been handmade by a patient’s family member, who hoped to express their gratitude to the healthcare team.
 

According to reports, Ms. Rong, a patient, experienced an acute cerebral infarction in early May. She was promptly transferred to a local hospital and underwent surgical treatment. On May 17, she was admitted to Nanjing Zijin Hospital, where she presented with left-sided limb paralysis. Following a thorough assessment and multidisciplinary consultation, she received symptomatic pharmacotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, among other comprehensive treatments. Approximately one week after admission, a CT scan revealed a significant reduction in the extent of the intracerebral infarct.

During clinical treatment, the physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation therapists repeatedly encouraged the patient, helping her build confidence in her recovery and actively engage in rehabilitation exercises. After just over ten days, her condition has improved markedly—she can now sit in a wheelchair and has even begun practicing walking. This rapid recovery has come as a pleasant surprise to both the patient and her family. Grateful for the dedicated efforts of the medical team, the patient’s family personally baked a cake to express their heartfelt appreciation.
