On the afternoon of October 30, a special singing competition was held at the Jiangning Campus of Nanjing Zijin Hospital. All 11 contestants were inpatients, most of whom had suffered brain injuries that had somewhat impaired their speech abilities and were currently undergoing rehabilitation therapy.

During the competition, most contestants are unable to truly “sing”; even when they can recite the lyrics fluently, they can only manage vague, indistinct pronunciations. Due to their condition, their speech abilities have been impaired—some have even lost the ability to speak altogether. Now, they are all diligently cooperating with rehabilitation therapy, and the day‑in‑and‑day‑out training can be rather monotonous. Yet, in the eyes of their families, each effort to produce a sound is the most beautiful melody.

This was the inaugural singing competition for rehabilitation patients at Nanjing Zijin Hospital. Patients enthusiastically signed up to take part, while therapists conducted thorough assessments and tailored training for each patient with aphasia, ensuring careful coordination for every participant. The event was filled with laughter and joy, with the upbeat atmosphere inspiring patients and subtly boosting their motivation to engage in rehabilitation. In the future, similar competitions will be held as appropriate, helping patients approach treatment with a positive mindset and achieve their recovery goals.
