Love is the shortest path to recovery: There’s a “model husband” in the ward.
“Doctor, I think my wife’s technique isn’t quite right—let’s have her try it again.” “I believe this equipment can handle that kind of force too. Why don’t you give it a shot…” He is a husband unlike any other. At Nanjing Zijin Hospital, he stays by his wife’s side every step of the way, never leaving her side. Almost every doctor, nurse, and rehabilitation therapist who knows him agrees: he is a model husband!
His name is Chen Jialin, and he has reached the age of destiny this year. Last September, his wife, Pan Mingxiang, suffered a fracture in a car accident. Following surgery, she developed hemiplegia due to a pontine infarction, leaving her unable to care for herself, with impaired speech and poor control over her facial expressions, among other complications.
To prevent his son, who is away from home and at the peak of his career, from being distracted, Chen Jialin chose to resign from his job, dedicating himself full-time to caring for his wife and sharing the family’s burdens.

When Pan Mingxiang was first admitted to Nanjing Zijin Hospital, the torment of her illness often left her emotionally unstable in the middle of the night; at her most agitated, she would even lash out—of course, Chen Jialin was the one who bore the brunt. Yet he never grew weary of his wife or blamed the doctors; instead, he did his utmost to soothe her until she finally fell into a peaceful sleep. Smiling, he explained, “After so many years together, these things have long since become second nature. It’s no big deal if I have to endure a little hardship myself—I just worry about disturbing the rest of the other patients.”

The late-night “little episode” did nothing to dampen Chen Jialin’s spirits during the day. While accompanying his wife through her rehabilitation sessions, he would swiftly slip into a “busy,” “work‑mode” mindset. Most family members, after dropping their loved ones off in the rehab room, sit nearby—resting, scrolling through their phones, or chatting with others. Not so for Chen Jialin: during each of his wife’s exercises, he stands by to offer support, constantly monitoring for any deviations from proper form and even discussing subtle, hard‑to‑spot details with the therapist, ensuring maximum training efficiency. When her movements repeatedly fell short of the mark, he would step in himself to demonstrate the correct technique. The therapists in the rehab room all praise Chen Jialin as the most dedicated and meticulous family member.

Under Chen Jialin’s devoted care, his wife, Pan Mingxiang, has steadily improved—moving from being completely bedridden at her worst to now independently completing her rehabilitation exercises. At a recent consultation, one expert expressed an optimistic outlook, noting that she has a good chance of regaining the ability to care for herself. This progress would not have been possible without her unwavering strength and resilience, and it stands as the highest recognition of her husband’s tireless efforts over the past six months.
Accompanying one another is the most enduring declaration of love. Throughout the long years ahead, this couple will continue to lean on each other and extend boundless patience and understanding. We firmly believe that together they will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, sharing life’s joys and sorrows until old age, side by side for eternity.
