The 2020 Critical Care Rehabilitation Medicine Symposium was successfully held at our hospital.

On the afternoon of September 29, the 2020 Critical Care Rehabilitation Medicine Symposium, co-hosted by the Critical Care Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Society of Rehabilitation Medicine and Nanjing Zijin Hospital, was held at Nanjing Zijin Hospital. Thirteen experts renowned for their outstanding contributions and scholarly achievements in the field of critical care rehabilitation participated in the event.

Dr. Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered a welcoming address, extending a warm welcome to the distinguished experts and scholars in attendance and providing a brief overview of the hospital’s development journey and future plans. She emphasized that Nanjing Zijin Hospital is prioritizing critical care rehabilitation as its primary area of growth, with the goal of achieving tertiary‑level rehabilitation status within three years. By hosting this Critical Care Rehabilitation Medicine Symposium, the event offers an invaluable opportunity for both external experts to share their insights and for the hospital’s clinical staff to deepen their knowledge and expertise.

Professor Lu Xiao, Chair of the Critical Care Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, delivered a welcoming address, expressing her gratitude to all the experts in attendance and briefly outlining the numerous challenges currently facing the field of critical care rehabilitation. She noted that, as a rapidly growing specialty over the past five years, critical care rehabilitation holds great promise. By prioritizing its development, we can strengthen medical teams and cultivate more highly skilled professionals equipped with cutting-edge expertise. At the same time, as a frontier discipline, critical care rehabilitation continues to offer many unexplored areas ripe for investigation and discovery.

Subsequently, Pan Huaping, Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Jiangning Hospital affiliated with Nanjing Medical University, approached the topic from the perspective of assessing and managing silent aspiration in patients with tracheostomies. After analyzing high-risk populations and common contributing factors, he emphasized the need for enhanced professional competencies among nurses and head nurses. Meanwhile, Professor Lu Xiao, drawing on the “Chinese Medical Association Guidelines and Consensus on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,” distilled guiding principles and research directions from assessments across several levels—covering neurological function, cardiovascular function, respiratory function, and more.

Following the academic symposium, the participating experts visited the Jiangning Campus of Nanjing Zijin Hospital and expressed their appreciation for the hospital’s achievements in recent years.
