This year, 65-year-old patient Grandpa Lü was suffering from severe cardiac failure, a severe pulmonary infection, and advanced renal dysfunction, with markedly elevated inflammatory markers. After being transferred among several hospitals, he was finally admitted to Nanjing Zijin Hospital for treatment.

 

 
Faced with a patient in such critical condition, the attending physician did not shirk responsibility or back down; instead, they promptly arranged an MDT consultation and, following a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s limb function, cardiopulmonary status, cognitive abilities, and other relevant domains, formulated a tailored treatment plan.
 
In response to the patient’s severe pulmonary infection, “targeted” therapy was administered based on sputum culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing, which significantly reduced sputum production and enhanced pulmonary respiratory function, thereby greatly increasing the likelihood of successful extubation. One week after admission, Grandpa Lü’s respiratory status had improved markedly.

 

 
The department also established a dedicated treatment team, which held an extensive discussion on Grandpa Lü’s post‑discharge rehabilitation that continued late into the night.
