Just yesterday, the three-day 2024 CNMIA Rehabilitation Conference and the Zhejiang Provincial Society of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Comprehensive Academic Annual Meeting—hosted by the Rehabilitation Medicine Professional Committee of the China Association of Non‑Public Medical Institutions and the Zhejiang Provincial Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, and co‑organized by Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital and Hangzhou Oriental Huakang Rehabilitation Hospital—came to a successful close at the Buckingham Palace Hotel in Hangzhou. At this major industry event, what voices will Nanjing Zijin Hospital bring to the table, and which representatives will be in attendance? Thematic Forum: A Clash of Ideas

At this conference, Nanjing Zijin Hospital hosted a sub‑forum on critical care rehabilitation, bringing together numerous experts in the field, including Li Jian’an, International Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and Lifetime Honorary Chair of the Rehabilitation Medicine Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions; Chen Zhen, Director of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Wang Changbao, Assistant to the President and Chief of the Major Division at the Qinhuai Campus of Nanjing Zijin Hospital; Wu Hongbo, Head of the Emergency Resuscitation Unit at the Binjiang Campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University; Zhou Suming, Director of the Critical Care Medicine Center at Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital; Wan Chunxiao, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Tianjin Medical University; Liu Yafeng, Assistant to the President and Regional Director of the Jiangning Campus of Nanjing Zijin Hospital; and Long Ying, Chairman of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Director of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Department at Shenzhen People’s Hospital.

Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered a speech at the forum, stating that critical care rehabilitation is a vital cornerstone of the field of rehabilitation medicine, directly impacting the quality of life and the recovery trajectory of critically ill patients. As the theme of this conference underscores—“Integration and Innovation to Drive High-Quality Development in Rehabilitation Medicine”—she expressed the hope that, through this forum, participants will jointly explore the latest advances and pressing issues in the realm of critical care rehabilitation, share experiences and insights, and collectively advance the cause of critical care rehabilitation.

The topics ranged from the challenges and opportunities in critical care rehabilitation to early rehabilitation following surgery for severe gastrointestinal malignancies; from the opportunities and challenges of neural plasticity in critical care rehabilitation to the application of the Nanjing Scale for Recovery of Consciousness in the assessment of acute disorders of consciousness; and further to the clinical value of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in critical care rehabilitation—each presentation was both diverse and compelling.

At the Shenzhen Longcheng Sub‑Forum on National Industry Evaluation and Hospital Accreditation, which aims to support high‑quality hospital development, Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, shared the hospital’s experiences and insights gained from successfully passing the review by the All‑China Private Medical Association in August 2024 and being recognized as a five‑star medical institution in terms of medical quality and service capability, as well as a 3A‑rated entity for social credit. She noted that, guided by the industry policy of “using evaluation to promote development, drive reform, integrate assessment with improvement, and prioritize building,” national industry evaluations and hospital accreditation have helped the hospital achieve continuous improvement, enhance its services, and steadily raise its management standards and service capacity.

As the inaugural “Hope Cup” National Rehabilitation Case Competition, it has received enthusiastic support and active participation from numerous colleagues in the rehabilitation field since its launch. This year, a total of 45 teams advanced to the finals. With their exceptional clinical expertise and meticulous approach, the participants shared one successful rehabilitation case after another, not only highlighting the boundless potential of rehabilitation medicine but also inspiring attendees to engage in deeper reflection and exploration of cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies.

The four teams from Nanjing Zijin Hospital are as follows: at the Jiangning Campus—Gao Jirong, Tu Zuntian, Ning Zhifeng, and Zhu Dedi; Sun Min, Chu Jun, and Tian Feng. At the Qinhuai Campus—Wang Changbao, Peng Yanfei, Duo Wenjuan, Xu Xuewei, and Sun Yue; Gao Hongliang, Jing Peng, Wang Chao, and Chen Xinyi. Their submitted cases were centered on the ICF framework and the principles of precision rehabilitation, highlighting a team‑based rehabilitation model that places functional impairments at its core. The presentations emphasized meticulous diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and outcome evaluation tailored to each individual case. Each case was richly illustrated with text and images, and the presenters delivered their reports in a clear, engaging manner, creating a strong on‑site impact. Their efforts earned unanimous praise and enthusiastic applause from the expert judges.

After fierce competition, they stood out from 45 finalist teams thanks to their solid expertise and innovative thinking. The case “Saving the Sleeping Little Prince,” led by Director Wang Changbao, won third prize in the Musculoskeletal/Other Pediatric Rehabilitation category, while the case “Magnetic Relief from Nightmares, Acupuncture Brings Hope,” led by Director Gao Hongliang, took first prize in the Neurological/Intensive Care Rehabilitation category!

The conference also received extensive coverage and interviews from Zhejiang TV’s News Channel and its Economic Channel. On site, they interviewed numerous participating experts and scholars, including Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital. In her remarks, she noted that, as critical care medicine continues to evolve, intensive care rehabilitation has become an indispensable pathway for the recovery of critically ill patients and the optimal route for accelerating their transition to general wards—this is precisely the primary rationale behind convening the Critical Care Rehabilitation Forum. The hospital invited healthcare professionals, researchers, and specialists from related fields who are committed to advancing the cause of critical care rehabilitation to actively participate in the forum, exchange cutting-edge academic insights and the latest developments in this field, foster the growth of critical care rehabilitation, enhance the clinical skills of practitioners, and ensure the quality and safety of patient recovery. She also expressed hope that broad media outreach would elevate the social visibility and public awareness of rehabilitation medicine, laying a more robust foundation for its future development.

The conference also featured the second plenary session of the Third Term of the Rehabilitation Medicine Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions. Committee members gathered to review the achievements of the past year, report on the proceedings of this conference, and outline future directions while finalizing arrangements for hosting the next CNMIA Rehabilitation Conference. The conference ultimately decided that Nanjing Zijin Hospital would be entrusted with organizing the next CNMIA Rehabilitation Conference.
