[Jiangsu TV] Filial piety is priceless! A 23-year-old young man quit his job to care for his father, who suffered a cerebral infarction.
The ancients said, “The tree longs for stillness, but the wind will not cease; the child wishes to care for their parents, but they are no longer there,” emphasizing that filial piety should be practiced without delay. The power of familial love has even helped his seriously ill father gradually recover.
The ancients said, “The tree longs for stillness, but the wind will not cease; the child wishes to care for their parents, but they are no longer there,” emphasizing that filial piety should be practiced without delay. In a ward at Nanjing Zijin Hospital, there is a 23-year-old young man named Tang Daohao. Since his father suffered a cerebral infarction, he resolutely resigned from his job to devote himself entirely to caring for him. The power of familial love has even helped his seriously ill father gradually recover.
The story of this father and son begins with an accident in October 2021. At the time, 46-year-old Tang Congxiao suffered a sudden cerebral infarction at a construction site, but thanks to emergency treatment, his life was saved.

After the accident, his son, Tang Daohao, single-handedly embarked on the road to recovery with his father. Tang Daohao’s mother had passed away early, and his father had raised him by working as a laborer at construction sites, hauling goods to make ends meet. After graduating, Tang Daohao secured a job at a Wuxi‑based company, where he worked in quality inspection. Just as their lives were beginning to improve, disaster struck: in little more than a month, medical expenses had already totaled over 100,000 yuan. Yet his son never once considered giving up.
“If it were me, could my dad possibly give up on me? No way, right? Anyway, I just can’t bring myself to give up,” Tang Daohao said.

To help his father recover, Tang Daohao resolutely quit his job and devoted himself entirely to caring for him around the clock. “I was doing quite well at my previous job—my work aligned with my field, and I got along great with my colleagues. But there was no other choice; if this hadn’t happened, I probably would have kept working there. Back then, I’d go 24 hours straight without a wink of sleep, not even feeling tired. Later, my aunt came over to help me for a few days, and I finally started getting a decent night’s rest—sleeping from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m., and that alone left me feeling truly content.”
Helping a patient recovering from a cerebral infarction is much like caring for a young child. When I was little, my father taught me to walk, to speak, and even fed me; now, the roles have reversed—my son helps me walk, teaches me to speak, and accompanies me as I “grow” again. In this way, two chapters of life have come to overlap.

Though the father cannot put it into words, he deeply cherishes his son’s efforts. In turn, his son’s companionship gives him boundless strength; during every rehabilitation session, Tang Congxiao is always fully cooperative, and his clear, commanding voice has even inspired many fellow patients.
Now, my father can engage in some communication, and his physical functions have also improved. “When he regained clarity of mind, he reached up to touch my head and said in our hometown dialect, ‘My good boy,’ which showed he recognized me. I burst into tears, but that gave me hope—day by day, he’s getting better, and he’s become much more spirited,” Xiao Tang said.
Filial piety is priceless and truly worthy of praise! Though life has thrown many hardships their way, this father and son have stood by each other, supported one another, and remained strong and optimistic. We also wish Tang Congxiao a speedy recovery!
