Our hospital organized a collective blood donation event for 2022.
“Come on, relax—clench your fist… After donating blood, be sure to take good care of the needle site and avoid strenuous exercise for the next 24 hours…” At Nanjing Zijin Hospital, staff from the Blood Center skillfully drew blood from donors while carefully reminding them of important post-donation precautions.
On the morning of February 17, enthusiastic blood donors arrived at the venue in an orderly manner. Under the guidance of staff from the Blood Center, they completed blood donation by filling out registration forms, undergoing blood tests, and finally donating. The event was held simultaneously at two campuses of Nanjing Zijin Hospital. Among the donors were physicians who had just finished their rounds, nurses who had taken time out from their duties, and interns still on duty; many patients’ family members and hospital employees also joined in.
Dr. Xu Weihai donates blood every year without fail. Before this donation, he thoroughly prepared himself and actively encouraged others, helping to dispel any concerns. “Blood is irreplaceable by any material; as a medical professional, I believe donating blood is an inescapable responsibility. We deeply understand how vital blood is to patients.” More than a decade ago, Dr. Xu also joined the Chinese Marrow Donor Program, hoping to help even more people.
Zheng Tongxiang, 55, works as a cleaner. “It breaks my heart to see patients lying in their beds. Today marks my third blood donation, and I hope I can continue to help others.” February 18 happened to be Auntie Zheng’s birthday, and this event is sure to be the best gift she could receive.
“Donate blood, which can be replenished, and save lives that cannot be regained.” During this event, 152 people successfully donated blood, totaling 47,750 ml. Among them, 26 donated 400 ml, and 122 donated 300 ml.
Nanjing Zijin Hospital has always placed great importance on participating in voluntary blood donation. It has been recognized twice as an advanced collective for voluntary blood donation in Nanjing, with one individual honored as an advanced individual and another awarded the Jiangsu Province Voluntary Blood Donation Dedication Award. Moving forward, Nanjing Zijin Hospital will continue to organize voluntary blood donation events and encourage more people to actively and enthusiastically join in this noble cause.
