　　“Well, what a distinguished male physician…” Outside, the cold wind howled piercingly; yet inside the lecture hall of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, thunderous applause erupted, wave after wave of warmth filling the air. It turned out that a group of young people were vying for excellence on the path of medicine, each showcasing their unique talents…

　　To enhance the clinical diagnostic and treatment skills of our hospital’s young physicians, broaden their medical knowledge base, and foster a vibrant atmosphere for academic exchange, as 2022 draws to a close with just 7.945% remaining, Nanjing Zijin Hospital has meticulously organized the second Annual Young Physicians Case Presentation Competition, themed “Excellent Cases Foster Learning and Shared Growth.” The event was chaired by Director Xiao Feng of the Medical Affairs Department.

　　This year’s competition has specially invited Zhou Suming, Director of the Critical Care Medicine Center and Director of the Geriatric ICU at Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital, and Cheng Huilin, Director of the Department of Neurosurgery at The First Affiliated Hospital of Southeast University, to serve as expert judges.

　　Dr. Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, extended a warm welcome to the invited guests and wished the 12 contestants great success, highlighting their outstanding spirit as young physicians on their journey of medical exploration. She also noted that, since the beginning of this year, the hospital has welcomed 73 newly hired staff members, including more than ten master’s degree holders. Dr. Ge expressed her hope that these young professionals would draw inspiration from the competition—emulating the contestants’ courage to explore and their commitment to continuous learning—and experience the hospital’s humanistic ethos of “sincerity and excellence, benevolence and far-reaching vision,” thereby contributing to the hospital’s ongoing development.

　　The topics submitted for this case‑presentation competition ranged from hyperbaric oxygen therapy for patients with multiple intracranial aneurysms, to the combined use of awakening‑brain acupuncture and rope‑band therapy for severe traumatic brain injury, to cases of intracranial hemorrhage accompanied by respiratory and cardiac arrest in children, among others. Each contestant was allotted eight minutes, during which they were expected to present a clear line of reasoning, support their points with comprehensive evidence, distill the core takeaways, and incorporate elements that would resonate with the judges—undoubtedly a formidable challenge.

　　“You’ve hit the nail on the head—SEPTIC is a term that describes…” Director Zhou Suming offered professional feedback and recommendations to Dr. Luo Jing of Ward 103 at Nanjing Zijin Hospital regarding cases of sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), while also expressing his appreciation for Dr. Luo’s precise and standardized treatment approach.

　　Competitors No. 10, Chen Xinyi and Yu Nuanxin, from the Rehabilitation Therapy Center, took first place with their presentation titled “‘Needle’ Insights, ‘Belt’ Journey,” scoring a high 94.20 points and ultimately clinching the first prize in this year’s Young Physicians Case Presentation Competition. Director Cheng Huilin commended Chen Xinyi for her expressive delivery and strong on‑stage presence, while also highlighting the case report’s innovative use of awakening‑and‑opening‑the‑mind acupuncture combined with strap‑therapy for treating severe traumatic brain injury, noting its significant clinical relevance.

　　Following on-site competition and expert panel evaluation and scoring, the first prize was proudly awarded to Chen Xinyi and Yu Nuanxin from the Rehabilitation Therapy Center; the second prize was jointly claimed by Liu Zhihui from the Qinhuai Campus and Niu Yahui and Zhao Tianying from the Rehabilitation Therapy Center; and the third prize was presented to Sun Min and Yu Cheng from the Jiangning Campus, as well as Ji Hong from the Qinhuai Campus.

　　Gao Zhiqiang, Executive Vice President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered the closing remarks, expressing his gratitude to all the expert judges for their constructive criticism and guidance, which have further strengthened and refined the case presentations and diagnostic‑treatment approaches of the participating physicians.
