From July 7 to July 9, 2023, the Nanjing International Forum on Rehabilitation Medicine was held by the shores of Baijia Lake.

This conference features two plenary sessions, seven thematic forums, and three workshops, covering areas such as cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, pelvic floor rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, spinal rehabilitation, smart rehabilitation, advanced cognitive rehabilitation, botulinum toxin injection training, brain‑modulation technologies and neuroimaging training, as well as critical care rehabilitation. The event aims to showcase cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies and discuss the latest theoretical developments in the field.
The conference brought together renowned domestic and international experts and scholars in rehabilitation and related fields, presenting a truly outstanding showcase of cutting-edge theories and technologies in rehabilitation medicine.
Academician Fang Jiancheng
Academician Fang Jiancheng, who specializes in ultra‑weak magnetic fields in aerospace, drew on his expertise to discuss the application prospects and future outlook of functional medical imaging technologies.
Professor Zhou Shifang
At the venerable age of 94, Professor Zhou Shifang presented a fresh perspective on chronic pain, personally preparing his own PowerPoint slides. For half an hour, he stood at the podium with crystal‑clear thinking and a commanding, resonant voice.
Academician Li Jian’an

Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital
Ms. Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, shared her perspective on the conference theme: “Integrated innovation means transcending disciplinary boundaries and fostering cross‑sectoral communication and collaboration; precision rehabilitation, in turn, calls for tailoring rehabilitation plans to each patient’s unique characteristics, bringing therapeutic interventions closer to patients’ needs and making them more precise and effective.”
The magpie joyfully brings good news, and together they walk hand in hand, holding orchids. The Jiangsu Provincial Specialized Rehabilitation Medicine Alliance’s leadership transition meeting was held as scheduled on the evening of July 7. At our hospital, Gao Zhiqiang, Qi Yuliang, Gao Jirong, and others were appointed as executive directors and directors of the alliance’s board of directors.
At the plenary session of the Private Rehabilitation Medicine Branch of the Jiangsu Provincial Specialty Alliance for Rehabilitation Medicine, held on the afternoon of July 8, participants engaged in a lively discussion on how private hospitals can achieve sustainable and healthy development. Ge Jiangping, president of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, stated that, against the backdrop of DRG payment reform, private hospitals can only go further and thrive by prioritizing human resources, standardizing professional practices, and enhancing their service capabilities.
As Nanjing’s first tertiary‑level rehabilitation hospital, Nanjing Zijin Hospital has long been committed to research and clinical practice in the field of critical care rehabilitation. This conference’s intensive training program on critical care rehabilitation covers cutting‑edge theories and techniques in three key areas—cardiopulmonary rehabilitation for critically ill patients, assessment and arousal‑promoting interventions for disorders of consciousness, and swallowing and nutritional management in critical care—bringing together leading national experts in the field. The program focuses on current hot topics and challenging issues in critical care medicine, offering hands‑on instruction in the latest rehabilitation therapies and approaches.
Professor He Jianghong
Professor Di Haibo
At the intensive rehabilitation training session, the venue was packed, with participants attentively listening to Professor Di Haibo’s lecture on “Scale-Based Assessment of Disorders of Consciousness” and Professor He Jianghong’s presentation on “The Application of Neuroelectrophysiological Techniques in the Evaluation of Disorders of Consciousness.” Through clear and insightful explanations, the two professors left a lasting impression on the attendees by demystifying the elusive and abstract concept of “consciousness,” as well as introducing cutting-edge international neuroelectrophysiological techniques—both theoretical and practical. Their presentations opened new perspectives and broadened the participants’ horizons.
Gao Zhiqiang, Executive Vice President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital
At the training course on the assessment and arousal of severe disorders of consciousness, Gao Zhiqiang, Executive Vice President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, delivered a lecture titled “The Application of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in the Treatment of Disorders of Consciousness.” He covered the topic from multiple angles and at various levels, including the historical development of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, relevant guidelines and consensus statements, the principles underlying cerebral resuscitation with hyperbaric oxygen, as well as optimal timing and duration of treatment. By drawing on several clinical cases of disorders of consciousness, he deepened the audience’s understanding of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Upholding the fundamentals while understanding our origins, and innovating to chart our future—this spirit has profoundly benefited our hospital’s staff. Moving forward, the hospital will continue to cultivate the fertile ground of critical care rehabilitation, stay attuned to industry trends, remain committed to research and innovation, embrace cutting-edge theories, master advanced technologies, and translate these advances into clinical practice, thereby bringing lasting benefits to patients.
