　　This is an international forum for exchange and cooperation in the field of rehabilitation medicine, as well as a platform for sharing cutting-edge rehabilitation medical practices and management expertise from both China and abroad.

　　To jointly elevate the standards of medical care in Asia and Oceania, the 8th Asian–Oceania Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AOCPRM), together with the 2023 Annual Academic Conference of the Rehabilitation Medicine Professional Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions, was grandly held from October 6 to 9 at the Tianfu International Conference Center in Chengdu, China.

　　This event has brought together 178 renowned experts and scholars from both China and abroad, hailing from countries including China, the United States, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, as well as from Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong. Gathered in Chengdu, they have convened under the conference theme of “Rehabilitation, Intelligence, Innovation, and Health,” engaging in a spirited exchange of ideas at the Tianfu Forum.

　　

　　The conference meticulously organized one international and one domestic plenary forum, 15 workshops, 28 international and domestic parallel sessions, 197 poster presentations in both Chinese and English, 195 oral presentations in Chinese and English, and three working meetings. Held in a hybrid online–offline format, the event offered attendees a richly varied academic program designed to foster intellectual exchange, showcase groundbreaking achievements, and explore industry developments—culminating in a high‑level dialogue and a vibrant sharing of insights that defined the rehabilitation medicine sector. 　　At the opening ceremony on the evening of October 7, in addition to the distinguished remarks delivered by the attending guests, five artistic performances also left a lasting impression on the audience. Among them was a demonstration of Chen-style Taijiquan by Gao Hongliang, head of the Rehabilitation Therapy Center at Nanjing Zijin Hospital. Accompanied by the melodious music “Floating Light” and set against a backdrop of stunning Nanjing scenery, his Taijiquan—combining both strength and softness—earned round after round of enthusiastic applause.

The Consciousness Disorders Forum—our home turf!

Starting at 1:00 p.m. on October 8, the 118 Emei Hall gradually filled with colleagues who had come to attend the lecture.

Under the skillful moderation of Director Lu Xiao, the experts delivered a series of engaging and insightful lectures.

　　Professor Feng Zhen from the Affiliated Rehabilitation Hospital of Nanchang University delivered a lecture titled “Rational Reflections on the Rehabilitation Assessment of Chronic Disorders of Consciousness.” She encouraged the audience, beyond merely familiarizing themselves with assessment methods, to delve deeper into how to address the limitations of such assessments and enhance their precision when evaluating critically ill patients.

　　In Director Long Ying’s presentation at the Second Clinical Medical College of Jinan University, titled “Evaluation of the Therapeutic Value of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Disorders of Consciousness,” she not only cited multiple clinical cases to substantiate the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in treating such conditions but also highlighted its broader therapeutic applications across other disease states.

　　Directors Wang Changbao and Liu Yafeng of Nanjing Zijin Hospital provided a deeper understanding of the development and clinical application of the Chinese Nanjing Scale for Persistent Vegetative State, as well as the CNCRS scale.

　　On the day of the forum, there were also presentations on the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of consciousness by Director Zhang Shouzi; an exploration and analysis of noninvasive brain modulation for disorders of consciousness led by Director Lu Xiao; a compelling discussion by Professor He Jianghong on comprehensive, life‑long management and clinical approaches to patients with disorders of consciousness; and a series of studies by Professor Ma Chao on trigeminal nerve stimulation for promoting arousal in comatose patients. With seven talks, each lasting 30 minutes, the program was tightly packed yet rich in substantive content, ensuring that every attendee found it well worth their time.

　　At noon on October 9, during the awards ceremony of the 2023 Academic Annual Conference of the Rehabilitation Medicine Professional Committee of the China Association of Private Medical Institutions, held at the Chengdu Hall, Nanjing Zijin Hospital was honored as a vice-chair unit of the committee, and President Ge Jiangping took to the stage to receive the plaque.

　　At this conference, Nanjing Zijin Hospital not only hosted the Disorders of Consciousness Forum but also achieved significant success. Director Liu Yafeng’s English-language paper received second place in the oral presentation category, while Director Gao Hongliang’s Chinese-language paper earned third place.

　　 Although the three-day conference has concluded, its memorable moments and the experts’ insightful knowledge-sharing will remain vivid in everyone’s minds. Taking this as an opportunity, Nanjing Zijin Hospital will continue to elevate the quality of its medical services and contribute its unique strength to safeguarding the health and well-being of the people.
