Nanjing Zijin Hospital has obtained the three-year accreditation from CARF, the international standard for rehabilitation quality management.

What is CARF?

　　CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) stands for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Established in the United States in 1966, it is an internationally leading, non-governmental, nonprofit organization that provides accreditation and consulting services in the field of human health care.

　　CARF is the global benchmark for rehabilitation medicine quality accreditation, dedicated to enhancing the quality of services provided by rehabilitation facilities worldwide to all patients. Its annually updated standards serve as the “gold standard” of the international rehabilitation field, and the accreditation is subject to a reassessment every three years; failure to pass the reassessment results in the revocation of the certification.

　　As of December 29, 2023, there were 26 nationally accredited rehabilitation institutions (including specialized rehabilitation hospitals and departments/centers), of which 15 were privately operated. In Jiangsu Province, there were 5 such institutions, 4 of which were privately operated; in Nanjing, there were 3, 2 of which were privately operated. (All figures include Nanjing Zijin Hospital.)

Initiate CARF Accreditation

　　In recent years, the rehabilitation sector has been experiencing rapid growth across multiple dimensions, including technology, equipment, and human resources. This trend has prompted rehabilitation hospitals at all levels to align their development with national priorities and patient needs, placing greater emphasis on achieving “high quality.”

　　To align with prevailing trends and support high-quality development, Nanjing Zijin Hospital has adopted the internationally recognized CARF standard as a benchmark for its own growth. In February 2023, the hospital partnered with Jiamukang to launch a nearly year-long initiative aimed at enhancing and upgrading its management systems in preparation for CARF accreditation. By leveraging this standard, the hospital is systematically optimizing and refining all aspects of its operations, thereby delivering a higher‑quality rehabilitation and medical care experience to patients.

Through CARF accreditation

　　Ge Jiangping, President of Nanjing Zijin Hospital, stated that, following rigorous evaluation, the hospital’s successful attainment of CARF’s three-year accreditation marks a new beginning and signifies a significant step forward. For a tertiary rehabilitation hospital, achieving CARF’s three-year certification means that all management and service systems are aligned with international gold‑standard practices in rehabilitation care. Moving forward, the hospital will continue to adopt an international perspective and innovative thinking to deliver exceptional rehabilitation services, striving to realize its vision of becoming a leader in the field of rehabilitation.
