To further strengthen the development of rehabilitation medicine, our hospital invited Professor Chen Wenhua, a renowned domestic expert in rehabilitation medicine, who on the morning of August 9 delivered a specialized lecture—both online and in person—on rehabilitation strategies and approaches for motor dysfunction following central nervous system injury, aimed at medical, nursing, and technical staff.

　　During the lecture, Professor Chen Wenhua provided a detailed exposition on the rehabilitation mechanisms following central nervous system injury, the differences between central and peripheral nerve injuries in terms of motor dysfunction, and rehabilitation strategies for motor impairments resulting from central nervous system damage.

　　Professor Chen Wenhua also highlighted several key points in his lecture, such as: in rehabilitation therapy, creating a “favorable” environment for patients and fostering “interaction” between the environment and the patient’s sensory perceptions can better facilitate recovery; it is essential to fully engage the patient’s agency, prioritizing “sensation first and initiative paramount”; moreover, it is important to understand the relationship between spasticity and functional outcomes, and that appropriately managing spasticity is a crucial strategy for advancing motor function.

　　Through this lecture, participants gained a deeper understanding of rehabilitation strategies and approaches for motor dysfunction following central nervous system injury, which will further inform clinical practice.

　　He is the leader of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the First People’s Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the Medical Director of Lanhai Rehabilitation Hospital at the First People’s Hospital of Shanghai, and the Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Therapy at Shangha i Shanda College. He currently serves as an Executive Council Member of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, President of the Rehabilitation Branch of the Shanghai Association of Private Medical Institutions, Honorary Chair of the Rehabilitation Therapy Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Vice Chair of the Standards Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Advisor to the Rehabilitation Branch of the China Association of Non‑Public Medical Institutions, Vice Chair of the Geriatric Medical‑Rehabilitation System Construction Branch of the Chinese Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Chair of the Sports Rehabilitation Specialized Committee of the Shanghai Society of Sports Science, and Chair of the Rehabilitation Specialized Committees of both Hongkou District and Songjiang District in Shanghai.

　　She spearheaded her team in achieving CARF accreditation—the first in China—under the international standards for rehabilitation medicine, and has actively promoted and disseminated taping techniques and botulinum toxin injections nationwide. She was the first to introduce French psychomotor rehabilitation to China, helping to establish a master’s‑level training program in geriatric psychomotor rehabilitation, for which she was awarded the “Special Contribution Award” and the title of “Honorary Professor” by the Institut de l’Éveil in France. She has served as chief editor, chief reviewer, or lead translator for more than 20 textbooks and monographs. As the primary contributor, she has received three awards from the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine—covering both scientific and technological research and teaching excellence, including one first‑class prize—as well as one Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award and three Shanghai Association of Rehabilitation Medicine Scientific and Technological Awards.
